Day 51 Feb 25 New Plymouth, New Zealand

See all of our photos of New Plymouth New Zealand.

There is not a lot to see in New Plymouth, New Zealand but there is a beautiful park, Pukekura Park. We took the shuttle bus from the port into the city central area and then walked about 15 minutes to the park. Along the way, we saw some very pretty flowers and interesting houses.

There are two lakes in the park, the lower lake is the smaller lake with a fountain and lots of ducks.

The Main Lake is up a small hill. We stopped, just past the waterfall, at the Tea House for brunch before exploring more. There is a really neat bridge at what looks to be the far end but its only about half way.

The entire lake was beautiful and uncrowded.

At one point, we felt like the entrance to the ET ride at Universal Studios was surely just around the corner.

On the walk back to the city center, we ran across a rose garden, and even though it was almost the end of the summer here, some of the roses were in full bloom.

Once back in the city center, we hopped on the shuttle bus for our return to the ship. We have a day at sea followed by a day of scenic cruising at Fiordland National Park in southern New Zealand. Then two sea days as we move on to Australia.
